Staff Software Engineer, Frontend

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Frontend based in India.

This is a high-impact frontend engineering role focused on defining how a rapidly evolving product should be built and scaled. You will own frontend architecture, component systems, performance, tooling, and engineering standards rather than simply delivering individual features. The role combines deep technical leadership with strong product judgment and close collaboration with designers and engineers. You will help establish scalable patterns for a large TypeScript and React codebase while keeping product delivery moving quickly. Generative AI and coding agents are already central to the development workflow, creating new challenges around reliability, safety, and engineering practices. You will also mentor engineers across India and the US while shaping frontend standards for the future.

• Own and evolve frontend architecture, including application state, data fetching, routing, module boundaries, build tooling, and technology choices.

• Define the frontend technical direction and determine which technologies, patterns, and architectural approaches should be retained, replaced, or introduced.

• Establish and consolidate a unified component system, migrating duplicated implementations toward shared, maintainable primitives and introducing standards that prevent future fragmentation.

• Own frontend performance as a measurable engineering objective, using bundle budgets, Lighthouse, real-user metrics, monitoring, and other tooling to identify and reduce performance issues.

• Partner closely with designers to improve product experience, contributing to decisions around layout, density, interaction, motion, hierarchy, and overall product quality.

• Establish engineering practices that make the codebase safe and efficient for AI-assisted development, including typed boundaries, linting, visual regression testing, and fast feedback loops.

• Review frontend changes and maintain a high technical quality bar across the engineering organization.

• Mentor engineers across India and the US, providing technical guidance and helping develop strong frontend engineering practices.

• Lead complex frontend initiatives such as consolidating multiple generations of product functionality while maintaining continuous product delivery.

• Design interaction patterns for complex AI-agent experiences, including interfaces that display partial results and activity over extended periods.

• Identify opportunities for architectural improvement, technical-debt reduction, reliability, and scalability while balancing them against ongoing product delivery.

• Communicate technical decisions and engineering direction clearly in a distributed, written-first working environment.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience building production frontend applications, with deep expertise in React and TypeScript.

• Demonstrated experience owning a frontend codebase at the architectural level rather than focusing exclusively on individual features.

• Strong knowledge of frontend architecture, build tooling, component systems, testing strategy, and release safety.

• Proven experience improving frontend performance through measurable objectives, with the ability to explain what metric was improved and by how much.

• Strong product judgment and attention to user experience, with the ability to identify specific design and interaction issues and articulate why they matter.

• Experience working effectively with AI coding agents and the judgment to critically review and validate AI-generated code rather than accepting it without verification.

• Ability to design engineering safeguards that make AI-assisted development reliable and maintainable at scale.

• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to document decisions and collaborate effectively across time zones.

• Experience working with large or complex frontend codebases and driving architectural convergence.

• Ability to mentor engineers and establish technical standards across a distributed team.

• Strong ownership, autonomy, and problem-solving skills in a fast-moving product environment.

• Experience with design systems is a plus.

• Experience building data-dense or document-heavy products is desirable.

• Experience in early-stage or 0-to-1 environments is advantageous.

• B2B SaaS experience is a plus.

• Experience building LLM-backed interfaces or AI-powered product experiences is desirable.

• Candidates must be based in India; Bangalore is preferred, although applicants from elsewhere in India may be considered.

• Ability to overlap with US-based colleagues approximately from 9 PM to 2 AM IST, with flexibility outside that collaboration window.
