Software Development Engineer in Test 2

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test 2 based in India.

This is an engineering-focused QA opportunity centered on building scalable, reusable automation frameworks for modern web and API systems.
You will work primarily with Playwright and TypeScript to automate testing across Next.js web applications and Python/Django APIs.
The role goes beyond individual test scripts, with a strong emphasis on framework design, maintainability, reliability, and scalability.
You will also help drive an AI-first approach to quality engineering through AI-powered test generation, validation, and self-healing automation.
Working closely with developers, DevOps, product teams, and other QA engineers, you will identify risks and continuously strengthen test coverage.
The position combines hands-on automation with selective manual testing, debugging, mentoring, and continuous improvement.

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable automation frameworks supporting UI, API, performance, and security testing.
• Build scalable Playwright-based automation using TypeScript across web applications built with Next.js and APIs built with Python/Django.
• Drive an AI-first testing strategy by integrating AI-powered solutions into quality assurance and automation workflows.
• Explore and implement AI-driven approaches to test case generation, validation, and self-healing tests.
• Perform manual testing when appropriate, including exploratory testing, edge-case validation, and quick functional checks.
• Build and maintain CI/CD-integrated test systems that provide reliable and continuous test coverage.
• Identify automation gaps, pipeline bottlenecks, reliability issues, and quality risks, and proactively implement solutions.
• Ensure test frameworks remain reliable, maintainable, reusable, and scalable rather than relying on isolated test scripts.
• Debug complex testing and automation issues and investigate technical problems effectively.
• Collaborate with developers, DevOps, product teams, and QA colleagues to establish and improve quality standards.
• Mentor junior QA engineers and contribute to the development of strong testing practices across the engineering organization.
• Continuously evaluate new tools, technologies, and AI-driven techniques that can improve testing efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements:

• At least 2.5 years of professional experience in automation testing or software quality engineering.
• Strong engineering mindset with experience designing reusable and scalable test automation frameworks.
• Hands-on expertise with Playwright for end-to-end testing.
• Strong experience with TypeScript and modern test automation practices.
• Experience testing web applications, particularly with JavaScript/Next.js environments.
• Experience testing APIs, ideally in Python/Django-based environments.
• Hands-on experience with manual testing, including exploratory testing, edge cases, and functional validation.
• Understanding of CI/CD integration and automated testing within continuous delivery pipelines.
• Interest in or practical exposure to AI-first testing approaches, including AI-driven test generation, validation, or self-healing automation.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to research technical issues independently using online resources and documentation.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with developers, DevOps, product teams, and QA professionals.
• Ability to identify testing gaps, bottlenecks, and risks and proactively address them.
• Strong focus on code quality, test reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior QA engineers is valuable.
• Curiosity and willingness to experiment with new technologies and continuously improve engineering practices.
