If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist
In this role, you will (what you’ll do)
Own the hands-on packaging, deployment and day-to-day operation of a developer tooling solution that modernises the software estate using Moderne and OpenRewrite.
Partner with the vendor’s professional services team and internal engineering teams to plan and execute roll-out, onboarding and adoption across multiple teams.
Deploy and run the platform centrally on HSBC’s Kubernetes-based hosting platform (with the flexibility to adapt to VM hosting if needed), including authoring Kubernetes manifests, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring / alerting and production support.
Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams on the usage and integration of the developer tooling solution, including troubleshooting issues and providing best practices for adoption.
Contribute software engineering where needed to unblock delivery and adoption, including custom OpenRewrite recipes (Java), lightweight user interface work (Angular) and integrations with internal systems.
Engage in technical design discussions, assess options and trade-offs (benefits, risks, dependencies), and drive decisions through to implementation by proactively navigating the organisation and documenting outcomes.
To be successful, you will (knowledge, experience and qualifications)
Have a degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or a related discipline with experience ranging from 8 to 10 years.
Bring strong Kubernetes and containerisation expertise (Kubernetes, Docker), including production-grade deployment patterns, configuration management and troubleshooting.
Have solid CI/CD engineering experience, including building and maintaining pipelines in Jenkins and using scripting languages such as Shell, Groovy and/or Python.
Be comfortable with observability and artefact management tooling, for example Prometheus, Grafana and Nexus (or equivalent), and using these tools to diagnose issues end-to-end and collect adoption statistics.
Have hands-on software engineering capability in Java (Spring Boot) and familiarity with modern web development using Angular and Node.js; experience with OpenRewrite or large-scale codebase modernisation is desirable.
Have cloud and infrastructure-as-code experience, ideally with AWS - EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, ECS, CodeBuild, and Terraform.
Be a self-motivated individual contributor who can work with minimal guidance, communicate clearly in spoken and written English, and confidently “speak up” to navigate teams, stakeholders and delivery dependencies.
Apply strong engineering fundamentals, including analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and SOLID and other architectural principles across design, code and tests.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role with a strong platform/DevOps focus (K8S, CI/CD, cloud), alongside software engineering to extend the solution (recipes, UI and integrations).
You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
