Senior System Performance Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior System Performance Engineer based in India.

As a Senior System Performance Engineer, you will drive end-to-end performance characterization and optimization of Ethernet processing solutions across hardware, firmware, software, and system architectures. You’ll analyze throughput, latency, packet processing, resource utilization, and scalability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. The role combines networking expertise with deep system-level performance engineering and root-cause analysis. You’ll collaborate closely with architects, hardware designers, firmware developers, driver teams, and performance specialists. Your work will directly contribute to high-performance Ethernet solutions for data center and edge networking applications. This is an opportunity to influence performance from early platform development through post-silicon validation.

• Define and execute comprehensive performance validation strategies for Ethernet hardware and software subsystems across different platforms and workloads.
• Characterize system performance using metrics such as throughput, packets per second, latency, jitter, buffer utilization, CPU efficiency, and memory efficiency.
• Analyze end-to-end packet processing pipelines to identify performance bottlenecks across hardware components, drivers, firmware, and software stacks.
• Develop and apply methodologies to optimize Ethernet datapath performance across varying traffic patterns, workloads, and system configurations.
• Evaluate the performance of Ethernet MAC, PHY, switch, NIC, and packet-processing hardware to identify opportunities for optimization.
• Analyze bus utilization, DMA performance, memory bandwidth, cache efficiency, and hardware acceleration mechanisms to understand their impact on overall system performance.
• Perform performance characterization across both pre-silicon and post-silicon platforms, helping identify issues early and validate system behavior on production hardware.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with system architects, hardware engineers, firmware developers, driver teams, and performance architects to diagnose issues and implement optimization strategies.
• Conduct detailed root-cause analysis and translate performance findings into actionable engineering recommendations and improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 2 years of relevant industry or research experience in system performance engineering, networking, hardware/software optimization, or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of Ethernet networking, packet processing, datapath architectures, and system-level performance characteristics.
• Experience with performance benchmarking and analysis, including throughput, packet processing rate, latency, jitter, CPU utilization, memory efficiency, and buffer behavior.
• Familiarity with Ethernet hardware components such as MAC, PHY, switches, NICs, and packet-processing subsystems.
• Understanding of low-level system performance factors including DMA, bus utilization, memory bandwidth, cache efficiency, and hardware acceleration.
• Experience analyzing performance across hardware and software stacks, with the ability to identify bottlenecks and perform structured root-cause analysis.
• Ability to work effectively across hardware, firmware, driver, software, and architecture teams in a highly collaborative technical environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex performance data into practical optimization strategies.
• Comfortable working across pre-silicon and post-silicon development and validation environments.
