Role Summary

Ontic is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Frontend) to lead the development of complex user interfaces and frontend systems that power our SaaS platform. This role is intended for experienced engineers who can independently drive features, own significant parts of the frontend architecture, and contribute to their team's technical direction.

You will work on designing scalable frontend solutions, improving system quality, and ensuring excellent user experience. While the role is primarily frontend-focused, the ideal candidate should also have working knowledge of backend systems and be comfortable collaborating on API design, integration patterns, and lightweight API-layer changes where needed.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Implementation

• Lead the development of complex frontend features using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS.

• Translate ambiguous product requirements into scalable and maintainable solutions.

• Own end-to-end delivery of features, from design through production rollout.

• Drive improvements in UI architecture, application performance, and user experience.

• Integrate frontend applications with backend APIs and services to deliver seamless user experiences.

• Collaborate on backend-for-frontend (BFF) and API-layer modifications to support frontend functionality.

Code Quality & Best Practices

• Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code aligned with engineering standards.

• Lead code reviews and promote consistent application of coding best practices.

• Establish and advocate standards for component design, state management, and frontend architecture.

• Improve application test coverage, performance, and accessibility.

Learning & Technical Growth

• Develop expertise in frontend architecture, performance optimization, and large-scale application design.

• Evaluate and adopt new technologies and tools where appropriate.

• Contribute to technical discussions and internal knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Collaboration

• Work closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams to define frontend solutions, API contracts, and integration approaches.

• Break down complex technical problems into manageable tasks and guide execution within the team.

• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support their professional development.

• Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and risks effectively to stakeholders.

Production Ownership

• Lead the debugging and resolution of complex production issues.

• Drive improvements in monitoring, logging, and frontend performance tracking.

• Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of frontend applications.

Qualifications & Experience

• 5 to 7 years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on frontend development.

• Expert proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

• Strong hands-on experience with React and TypeScript in production environments.

• Solid understanding of frontend architecture, state management, and component-driven development.

• Experience designing and building scalable, high-performance web applications.

• Strong understanding of browser internals, rendering behavior, and performance optimization.

• Experience with frontend testing strategies and frameworks such as Vitest, Jest, and React Testing Library.

• Proficiency with modern frontend tooling and build systems.

• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across development and production environments.

• Experience working with REST APIs and distributed systems.

• Working knowledge of backend concepts, including:

  • REST APIs

  • Request and response flows

  • Authentication

  • Error handling

  • Data contracts

• Ability to work independently and drive initiatives to completion.

• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Good to Have

• Experience with design systems or shared component libraries.

• Exposure to frontend observability and performance monitoring tools.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based architectures.

• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and implementation best practices.

• Experience contributing to cross-team frontend standards or platform initiatives.

• Hands-on experience building lightweight API layers, backend-for-frontend (BFF) patterns, or service integration layers.
