Principal BIM Technician – Civils

WSP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal BIM Technician – Civils to support the design and delivery of Transport & Infrastructure projects within the GCC Switzerland Team.

The role is responsible for leading the delivery of BIM and digital engineering services across underground works, tunnels, rail infrastructure, highways, utilities, stations, cut-and-cover structures, retaining structures, and multidisciplinary civil infrastructure projects.

The position combines technical BIM leadership, project delivery, resource management, quality assurance, client coordination, digital innovation, and team development to ensure efficient, high-quality project execution aligned with WSP Switzerland standards and project requirements.

BIM Leadership & Project Delivery

• Lead BIM delivery for rail, metro, tunnel, underground structures, highways, utilities, and civil infrastructure projects.
• Develop BIM execution strategies, modelling standards, workflows, and data management procedures.
• Manage the production and delivery of federated BIM models, drawings, schedules, and digital deliverables.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary models across Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, and Rail Systems disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), client requirements, and WSP Switzerland standards.
• Lead model reviews, clash detection workshops, and coordination meetings.
• Monitor project progress, resource utilisation, budgets, and delivery programmes.
• Support project teams through concept, detailed design, and construction support stages.

Underground & Tunnel Infrastructure

• Lead BIM coordination and digital delivery for:
  • Tunnels and underground structures
  • Metro and railway infrastructure
  • Cut-and-cover structures
  • Retaining structures
  • Shafts and portals
  • Utility corridors
  • Geotechnical and temporary works interfaces
• Coordinate with tunnel engineers and rail design teams to develop constructible BIM solutions.

Technical Management

• Develop BIM standards, templates, object libraries, and modelling procedures.
• Review models and drawings for quality, compliance, and constructability.
• Conduct model health checks and BIM audits.
• Implement BIM best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Drive automation through Dynamo, scripting, and digital workflows where appropriate.
• Support Common Data Environment (CDE) implementation and governance.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and support BIM technicians, modellers, and engineers.
• Allocate resources across projects and manage workload distribution.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and capability development initiatives.
• Establish training plans and competency development programmes.
• Provide leadership across both 2D and 3D delivery environments.

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
• 10 to 15 years of experience in the infrastructure sector.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D modelling using Revit in accordance with defined CAD and BIM standards.
• Experience performing clash detection using Navisworks.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
