We are looking for an exceptional person to add to our Geotechnical Team in our Bengaluru / Noida, India office. You will have at least 15+ years’ experience in the design of foundations, slope stability, embedded retaining walls, settlement analysis, damage assessment of existing facilities and structures for various infrastructure projects, especially metro projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of projects working closely with and being supported by other team members, Project Managers and Directors within the UK team.
As a specialist/expert within the UK&IE based Geotech Team working predominantly on a range of variety of geotechnical projects across the UK world.

Development of professionally and technically competent reports by making use of efficient working practices to provide industry leading, best value services to our clients.
Provide support in all aspects of project delivery including financial analysis, client liaison, public and statutory body consultation, quality control, management of specialists, contractors and sub consultants.
Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary teams working on geotechnical projects, work closely with and provide professional advice that builds relationships and raises the profile of the geotechnical division
Effectively manage and deliver project work with robust project financial management. Has budget responsibility for the delivery of projects and services.
Provide support in all aspects of project delivery meeting high technical standards, required quality and within allotted budget.
Working in accordance with accepted methods and legislation (including CDM) and operate in accordance with WSP’s corporate health & safety, environment, and quality (SHEQ) standards. Taking ownership for aspects of SHEQ management across the geotechnical team.
Undertake own continuing professional development and showing management of others across a team, to maintain and build professional capability.
Taking a proactive approach in developing the projects and working with the design team
Conduct technical peer reviews and quality checks of calculations, reports, and design deliverables prepared by others.
Support bidding activities, technical proposals, fee estimates, and project planning exercises.
Organising Qualitative Design Reviews (QDRs) for major projects
Provide strategic technical leadership for major geotechnical and infrastructure projects from pursuit through delivery.
Lead on complex, high-value, multi-disciplinary projects.
Oversee technical quality across multiple projects, ensuring adherence to company standards and industry best practices.
Key Competencies
Mandatory Skills
Strong UK based experience – good knowledge of the London base geology
A sound understanding of geotechnical engineering, with a broad understanding of the underlying principles, and substantial project management experience of medium sized projects.
Excellent report-writing and strong client liaison skills.
Will have significant previous experience of undertaking and managing: geotechnical desk studies; designing, procuring & supervising Ground Investigations (GIs); checking and reviewing Ground Investigation Reports & Geotechnical Design Reports in accordance with the requirements of Eurocode 7 : Part 1. Client facing and able to lead at client/contractor meetings.
Ability to use a range of geotechnical software for the design of civil engineering projects including the following: deep and shallow foundations (including pile group analysis); embedded and gravity retaining walls; earthworks/slope stability; reinforced earthworks.
Will have proven previous metro projects experience including undertaking under ground elements design, ground movement assessment, embedded retaining systems design, Diaphragm wall designs etc
Ground Movement Assessments to determine the impact of construction works on existing tunnels (BT, LUL, RMG), masonry tunnels (NR, City of London), masonry viaducts (NR), bored utilities (sewers / water mains)
Building damage assessments on third party structures
Demonstrable experience of geotechnical design together with a familiarity of design submission documentation. This includes a demonstrable understanding of the underlying principles and a knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications.
Proficiency with the use of geotechnical software for the management, review and presentation of ground investigation and geotechnical data using current best practice. Must have the skills to check, critically evaluate and amend your own work, be it drawings, calculations or reports.
General commercial awareness and an understanding of client requirements as described in contracts, including an understanding and awareness of contractual issues and risks when dealing with clients and sub-consultants.
Provides active contribution to technical excellence and innovation across the local geotechnical team
Good oral communication skills also, able to provide solid support at client facing meetings and able to assist with client/contractor meetings.
Desired Skills
Hands on experience in using the geotechnical software like Oasys XDisp, PDisp, GeoSlope SLOPE/W, GEOSTUDIO, Repute 2.5, WALLAP, Settle 3D, Slide 2, Plaxis 2D and Plaxis 3D.
Knowledge in the Engineering Geology or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Chartered Engineer from a reputed professional body membership (preferably ICE, UK) or working towards chartership with substantial progress demonstrated
Master’s degree in civil engineering with Geotechnical Engineering / Soil Mechanics and Foundation engineering as specialisation.
Working towards full professional membership / chartership.
