About the Team and the Role
The Vehicle Dynamics Components team at Ather is responsible for the design, integration, and validation of critical vehicle systems to support product development and build cycles.
This role is for a Brakes Engineer who will act as the single point of contact for internal and external communication, managing the end-to-end integration of braking systems from vendor technical evaluation to final production solutions.
Responsibilities
Integrate brake systems into products by collaborating with suppliers and managing all internal and external communication.
Create standardized engineering drawings and ensure successful Teamcenter (TC) release for all brake components.
Evaluate vendor-supplied braking systems from a technical standpoint and generate design concepts based on their inputs.
Write detailed system requirements and define End of Line (EOL) requirements for vendor manufacturing processes.
Own all internal interfaces and perform Interaction FMEAs while adhering to the established Design Maturity Model.
Draft and execute Design Verification Plans (DVP) and innovative test plans that accurately reflect real-world use cases.
Identify problem sources using root cause analysis methods such as Pareto charts, Ishikawa, 5 Why, and FMEA.
Solve bugs across field, assembly, and material domains to provide reliable, cost-effective solutions within production constraints.
Experience and Qualifications
B.Tech/B.E/M.tech/M.E. or equivalent with specialisation in Mechanical/Machine design
4-8 years of relevant experience working in brake system design and development
Must Have Competencies
Deep technical understanding of drum braking systems or Disc brake systems.
Expertise in brake system component sizing and selection to meet specific vehicle performance targets.
Proficiency in applying DFx (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, etc.) principles to various brake system components.
Thorough awareness of relevant quality and homologation standards governing automotive braking systems.
Good to Have Competencies
Deep technical understanding of Combined Braking System (CBS) specifically for two-wheelers.
Strong appreciation and understanding of Vehicle Dynamics testing methodologies and their impact on brake performance.
Ability to develop innovative test plans that simulate complex real-world use cases for validation.
Capability to perform Interaction FMEAs to manage interfaces between the braking system and other vehicle subsystems.
Skilled in coordinating testing timelines and liaising with suppliers to meet critical internal release milestones.
