Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js)

About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Node.js Developer with 5–8 years of experience to design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems. The ideal candidate is proficient in TypeScript, Node.js, Express, and Fastify, with strong knowledge of API design, microservices, SQL/NoSQL databases, and modern testing frameworks.

The role requires deep technical expertise in Node.js and modern web technologies, with the ability to collaborate effectively in an Agile environment and support end-to-end delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Actively contribute across the full software development lifecycle — planning, coding, debugging, testing, and deployment.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js with TypeScript.
• Build RESTful APIs using frameworks such as Express and Fastify.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code aligned with best practices and coding standards.
• Implement comprehensive unit tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
• Collaborate closely with frontend developers, product managers, and DevOps engineers.
• Optimize application performance and troubleshoot production issues.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design discussions.
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines for faster and safer deployments.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold high standards for quality, performance, and security.
• Assist in R&D initiatives, staying updated with emerging technologies and contributing to innovation discussions.
• Provide on-call support during marquee events and critical system deployments.
• Represent Sportz Interactive in technical discussions, client meetings, and project reviews as needed.

Background and Experience:

• 5–8 years of hands-on backend development experience with Node.js.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Experience with Express and Fastify frameworks.
• Solid understanding of unit testing using Jest (or similar testing frameworks).
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, authentication (JWT/OAuth), and security best practices.
• Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases (DynamoDB is preferred, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Experience with Git-based workflows and version control.
• Good understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architectures, and performance optimization.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
