Role: PRD Attribute Engineer
Location: IBC Knowledge Park
Reporting To: PRD Attribute Lead
Team Name: PRD Attributes
PRD Attribute Engineer at Ather is responsible for defining, tracking, and delivering the core Performance, Range, and Drivability (PRD) characteristics that define the industry-leading commute and ride experience of our intelligent electric 2 Wheelers
As a PRD Attribute Engineer, you will take end-to-end ownership of PRD attributes for specific electric two-wheeler programs. You will translate high-level product vision, homologation requirements and customer expectations into rigorous technical requirements, conduct trade-off analyses across powertrain, battery and thermal domains, and collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure our vehicles meet and exceed benchmark performance, efficiency, and ride quality standards.
End-to-End Attribute Ownership: Own the end-to-end delivery of PRD attributes for assigned vehicle programs across all stages of development—from initial target setting to final vehicle sign-off and fleet performance monitoring.
Target Cascading & Requirement Setting: Translate high-level product targets and market benchmarks into actionable vehicle and subsystem-level PRD requirements (motor, battery/BMS, MCU, thermal management, aerodynamics, and rolling resistance).
Attribute Tracking & Benchmarking: Maintain and continuously update a comprehensive attribute tracking sheet, benchmarking Ather vehicles against internal targets and competitor electric/ICE two-wheelers.
Root-Cause Analysis & Issue Resolution: Analyze test data and fleet telemetry to diagnose PRD-related bugs and work with component engineering teams to deliver effective remediations.
Design Integration & FMEA: Provide critical design inputs based on PRD impact assessments and actively participate in System DFMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) sessions to safeguard performance and range reliability.
Engineering Change Control & Sign-off: Evaluate and sign off on design, software, or manufacturing process changes by assessing their potential impact on PRD attributes.
Drive Cycle & Usage Synthesis: Analyze real-world fleet usage data to synthesize custom drive cycles and customer usage patterns, ensuring test protocols reflect actual riding conditions.
Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate continuously with Product Managers, System Engineers, Powertrain/Firmware Teams, and Testing/Validation teams to ensure alignment and accurate delivery of PRD attributes.
Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
Experience: 3–5 years of experience in vehicle attribute management, powertrain simulation, or vehicle performance/thermals testing within an automotive engineering environment (EV two-wheeler experience preferred).
EV Powertrain & Subsystem Fundamentals: Strong working knowledge of all EV powertrain components and subsystems that impact PRD—including electric motors, motor control units (MCU), battery packs, BMS, thermal management, transmission/drivetrain, tyres and vehicle control firmware.
Data Analysis & Visualization: Advanced ability to analyze complex test logs, chassis dyno data, and fleet telemetry to extract actionable insights and drive attribute decisions.
Vehicle Performance & Range Modeling: Mastery on first principles based modeling techniques (Python, Matlab or any similar software based) for range prediction and performance evaluation.
Domain Expertise in EV Powertrain: Deep understanding of how motor efficiency maps, battery discharge characteristics, regenerative braking, thermal limits, and control logic interact to govern PRD attributes.
Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with component owners, negotiate trade-offs, and lead cross-functional attribute delivery.
Data Automation & Processing: Skilled in using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for automated data processing pipelines, signal processing, and 1D simulations.
CAN Communication: Basic knowledge of CAN bus communication protocols and processing vehicle network log files (e.g., using PCAN or Python CAN libraries).
Dyno Operations: Practical experience and knowledge of Motor Dyno and Chassis Dyno operations to validate powertrain-specific attribute impacts.
Vehicle Evaluation & Riding Skills: Proficient two-wheeler riding skills with the ability to perform subjective evaluations of throttle response, acceleration feel, braking/regen behaviour, and overall drivability across different ride modes on test tracks and real-world roads.
Homologation & Regulatory Standards: Basic knowledge of EV homologation standards and regulatory test procedures relevant to PRD attributes
