Software Architect - Data Platform

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Architect - Data Platform based in India.

This is a senior architecture role responsible for shaping the target-state design and evolution of a modern, cloud-native data platform.
You will provide strategic technical leadership while remaining hands-on with architecture validation, proof-of-concepts, and complex data solutions.
The role centers on building scalable, secure, reliable, and governed data capabilities using Databricks and modern data technologies.
You will work closely with product, cloud operations, business operations, and engineering teams to align technology decisions with business and customer needs.
Your expertise will help reduce technical debt and total cost of ownership while improving analytics, reporting, and platform consistency.
You will also contribute to AI-powered development and GenAI-enabled data workloads as the platform evolves.

• Define and drive the execution of a scalable, cloud-native target-state architecture across the end-to-end data and software platform.

• Establish architectural patterns for automated, scalable, and reliable data ingestion.

• Develop hands-on proof-of-concepts with engineering teams using SQL, PySpark, serverless Python, and other relevant platform technologies to validate architectural decisions.

• Drive consistency across platform components by promoting reusable architectures, harmonized integrations, and approaches that reduce technical debt and total cost of ownership.

• Act as a subject-matter expert for data governance architecture, implementation, and related standards.

• Define and promote data platform and infrastructure security standards designed to protect systems and data from breaches.

• Partner with Product Management to shape application analytics strategies and develop a strong understanding of relevant business domains.

• Evaluate emerging technologies, open-source solutions, and third-party applications, acting as a technical advisor on their potential adoption.

• Design architectures that support high availability, low latency, resilience, and minimal service disruption.

• Promote architectural best practices, engineering excellence, developer enablement, and continuous improvement across technical teams.

• Mentor engineers and help teams adopt effective development, integration, and delivery practices.

• Contribute to AI-powered and agentic development initiatives involving data platforms, data transformation, and analytics.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in the software industry, including at least 3 years in an architecture-focused position.

• Extensive experience in data architecture, including ownership of architectural and design decisions within cloud-based data platforms and software-centric organizations.

• Strong expertise in data modeling, data governance, and designing data schemas for analytics and reporting.

• Significant hands-on experience with Databricks or another Spark-based lakehouse platform.

• Proven ability to design and build complex solutions using modern data-stack technologies, particularly SQL and PySpark.

• Practical experience using agentic AI within the software development lifecycle to improve engineering efficiency.

• Experience applying Generative AI to data workloads, including data analysis and related use cases.

• Strong analytical and data skills, with the ability to evaluate quantitative and qualitative information, assess total cost of ownership, and make informed technology trade-offs.

• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and gain alignment around architectural strategies.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to design creative solutions in ambiguous or unstructured environments.

• Relevant expertise in one or more areas such as security and access control, cloud operations and infrastructure, or third-party integrations.

• Hands-on experience architecting solutions on major public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure is preferred.

• Experience developing and supporting serverless workloads on public cloud platforms is preferred.

• Strong knowledge of modern infrastructure security practices, data privacy requirements, and access-control frameworks is advantageous.

• Demonstrated experience with developer enablement, engineering mentorship, continuous integration, and continuous delivery practices.

• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to operate effectively across product, engineering, operations, and business teams.
