Senior Gen AI Engineer (Freelancer)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Gen AI Engineer (Freelancer) based in India.

This is a hands-on opportunity to build and productionize advanced AI and Generative AI solutions in a fast-moving technology environment.
You’ll take complex and often ambiguous business challenges and transform them into practical, scalable AI applications.
The role combines software engineering, LLM application development, experimentation, deployment, and continuous optimization.
As a Forward Deployment Engineer, you’ll work closely with customers, product teams, and technical stakeholders to deliver solutions tailored to real-world needs.
You’ll work with emerging technologies including foundation models, AI agents, RAG, orchestration frameworks, and LLM APIs.
Your work will span the full AI lifecycle, from rapid prototyping through reliable production deployment and monitoring.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving challenging problems and turning emerging AI capabilities into measurable business value.

• Design, develop, and implement scalable AI and Generative AI solutions aligned with business and product requirements.
• Build and productionize LLM-powered applications, intelligent automation systems, and AI-driven workflows.
• Operate with a strong Forward Deployment Engineering mindset, partnering directly with customers, users, product teams, and internal stakeholders to understand challenges and deliver tailored solutions.
• Translate ambiguous business problems into practical AI architectures, prototypes, and production-ready implementations.
• Develop, test, deploy, and optimize AI models and applications across cloud and enterprise environments.
• Integrate foundation models and LLM APIs into scalable applications while balancing performance, reliability, security, and cost.
• Evaluate emerging Generative AI technologies, models, and frameworks and determine their suitability for specific business use cases.
• Troubleshoot AI model and application issues while continuously improving quality, accuracy, latency, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver end-to-end AI solutions.
• Develop reusable APIs, components, tools, and frameworks that accelerate AI application development and deployment.
• Establish effective evaluation, testing, monitoring, observability, and quality practices for AI and LLM-based systems.
• Stay current with developments in Generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, model orchestration, and enterprise AI deployment.

Requirements:

• 5–13 years of professional experience in software engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related technical disciplines.
• Strong hands-on experience developing AI and Generative AI applications, with a proven ability to take solutions from prototype to production.
• Solid understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), foundation models, prompt engineering, model APIs, and AI application architecture.
• Strong software engineering and programming fundamentals, with experience building scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work as a Forward Deployment Engineer, engaging directly with users or customers and rapidly developing solutions around evolving requirements.
• Ability to independently investigate complex technical problems and make effective decisions in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working across technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience with LangChain or similar LLM orchestration frameworks is a plus.
• Experience building Agentic AI systems, autonomous workflows, or AI agents is highly desirable.
• Hands-on experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, embeddings, semantic search, or document processing is beneficial.
• Familiarity with AI evaluation frameworks, observability, guardrails, and LLM application monitoring is a plus.
• Experience with cloud platforms and modern deployment practices, including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, is advantageous.
• Exposure to multi-agent architectures, tool calling, function calling, and workflow orchestration is preferred.
