CIMET currently provides end-to-end comparison and switching of Energy, Telco, Credit Cards, Personal
Loans, and Residential Solar Plans through its online platform in a B2B and B2C environment. It presently
caters to various Brands/Providers and has several Partners. This portfolio will further expand over the next
18 months across financial services (loans and insurance products). The online comparison market is extremely
crowded in Australia, with most comparators providing a light-touch directory solution. CIMET saw this as
an opportunity and developed a fully integrated online comparison and signup platform in 2017. Today,
CIMET has around 220 resources across Australia, India, and the Philippines, and has grown to a topline of
$25 million in FY2025. We have plans to list CIMET by 2030 and grow the company to a $1 bn enterprise.
We are ISO 27001 certified, an ACL license holder, and have been recognized in the AFR Fast 100 and
Deloitte Fast 50.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Econnex is seeking an experienced Senior Laravel PHP Engineer with deep expertise in microservices
architecture and MySQL database design. The ideal candidate will play a key role in building, scaling, and
optimizing our CAAS (Comparison as a Service) platform. The candidate will work closely with engineering
leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, secure, and scalable
applications.
KEY ACCOUNTABLIITIES
• Design & Development
o Architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Laravel (PHP 8+).
o Build and integrate microservices to enhance modularity and performance.
o Implement and optimize RESTful APIs / GraphQL for internal and external consumption.
• Database Engineering
o Design and optimize complex MySQL schemas ensuring performance and scalability.
o Implement caching strategies (Redis, Memcached) and query optimization.
• System Architecture
o Work on event-driven and asynchronous processing systems (e.g., queues, Kafka, RabbitMQ,
SQS).
o Collaborate on cloud-native deployments (AWS preferred) with containerized workloads
(Docker, Kubernetes).
• Quality & Delivery
o Ensure clean code practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and security best practices.
o Conduct code reviews and mentor junior/mid-level engineers.
• Collaboration
o Work in an Agile/Scrum environment with close collaboration with product, DevOps, and QA
teams.
o Contribute to technical discussions, architectural decisions, and roadmap planning.
• Core Tech Stack
o Strong experience in Laravel (PHP 8+) with microservices-based development.
o Deep expertise in MySQL, query optimization, indexing, and database performance tuning.
o Proficient in API design (REST/GraphQL).
• Engineering Practices
o Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
o Familiar with TDD/BDD, PHPUnit/Pest.
o Strong knowledge of design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean architecture.
• Cloud & Infrastructure
o Hands-on with AWS (ECS, EKS, S3, RDS, Lambda) or equivalent cloud platforms.
o Containerization experience with Docker, Kubernetes.
o Understanding of monitoring & observability tools (Prometheus, ELK, New Relic).
• Nice to Have
o Exposure to NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB).
o Experience with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
o Knowledge of frontend frameworks (Vue.js/React) for full-stack collaboration.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• 7+ years of experience in backend development with PHP.
• At least 3+ years working with Laravel framework in production.
• 2+ years in designing/deploying microservices architectures and API Gateways.
• Proven track record of scaling high-traffic applications.
