We are looking for an experienced Senior Python Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems. The role requires strong expertise in Python, FastAPI/Flask, databases, asynchronous programming, microservices, and cloud-native technologies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering mindset, excellent problem-solving abilities, and hands-on experience building reliable backend services that can operate at scale. You will contribute to technical design, application architecture, performance optimisation, and the development of robust production-ready systems.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python 3.x.
- Build high-performance APIs and backend services using FastAPI and/or Flask.
- Design and implement robust RESTful APIs following industry standards.
- Develop and maintain API specifications and documentation using OpenAPI and Swagger.
- Design and optimise database schemas and data-access layers using SQLAlchemy ORM.
- Implement effective session management, database transactions, and reliable data-processing workflows.
- Work with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL for application development and data management.
- Perform query optimisation, indexing, database performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Develop applications using appropriate multithreading, concurrency, and asynchronous programmingtechniques.
- Ensure backend services are thread-safe, reliable, and capable of handling concurrent workloads.
- Design and develop scalable microservices and distributed systems.
- Contribute to application architecture and technical design decisions.
- Containerise applications using Docker and manage deployments using Kubernetes.
- Deploy, operate, and troubleshoot applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisation strategies.
- Write clean, reusable, maintainable, and testable code following established engineering standards.
- Develop unit tests and participate in code reviews to maintain high software quality.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.
- Contribute to technical documentation, engineering standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in Python backend development.
- Strong expertise in Python 3.x and object-oriented software development.
- Extensive hands-on experience with FastAPI and/or Flask.
- Strong experience with SQLAlchemy ORM, session management, and database transactions.
- Solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, asynchronous programming, and thread-safe application development.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, including database design, indexing, query optimisation, and performance tuning.
- Proven experience designing and developing REST APIs and working with OpenAPI/Swagger.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, scalability, and high-performance application design.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience deploying and managing production applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong knowledge of Git, code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and modern software engineering practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges.
- Excellent understanding of application performance, reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
