About the Team and the Role:
The Manufacturing Engineering (Facility & Tooling)- Assembly team at Ather is responsible for managing the end-to-end scope of manufacturing projects, for NPDs & existing products. This team ensures process planning, design & sustenance of existing as well as new products on the production line.
This role is for a Team Lead-Manufacturing Engineering (Facility & Tooling), who will serve as the single point of contact for Driving the Projects from Planning to Execution. Overseeing project timelines, capacity governance, and team bandwidth to ensure successful adherence of projects & improvements.
Responsibilities
Lead manufacturing facility and tooling design, process planning, capacity governance, ordering, installation, and commissioning for battery assembly lines while meeting cost, quality, and schedule targets.
Establish manufacturing standards for visual factory, safety, lean, ergonomics, line automation, error-proofing, MTTR/MTBF, and system integration across manufacturing operations.
Drive digital transformation and early-stage virtual validations including virtual builds, plant/process simulations, layout engineering, IoT projects, and Digital Twin implementations.
Lead periodic PFMEA/EFMEA reviews, implement proactive control mechanisms to reduce RPN, and maintain standard Control Plans and Reaction Plans.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Design on DFA/DFM feedback and CTQs, and with Production on capacity constraints and human-in-the-loop layout planning.
Formulate technical roadmaps for advanced process automation, robotics, and emerging technological process innovations.
Prepare budgetary estimates and resource allocations for all manufacturing engineering scopes across new product development and brownfield/greenfield projects.
Mentor and build engineering capabilities in specialized domains including Robotics, IoT, SPM architecture, and in-station process control.
Experience and Qualifications
B.Tech/B.E/M.Tech/M.E. or equivalent with specialization in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation & Control Engineering.
10 to 15 years of relevant experience in Manufacturing Engineering or NPI activities in the automotive sector with an OEM or Tier-1 supplier.
Must Have Competencies
Expertise in battery pack and module assembly processes, spot/laser welding, epoxy dispensing, automated inspection, and AIS 156 regulatory standards.
Deep technical knowledge of manufacturing facility and tooling design, capacity planning, installation, and line commissioning within automotive manufacturing.
Proficiency in executing DFM, DFA, DFS, and PFMEA methodologies alongside MSA, Gage R&R, and calibration practices.
Hands-on capability in driving digital manufacturing execution, brownfield/greenfield project execution, and enterprise IT integration (MES, ERP, WMS, QMS).
Good to Have Competencies
Technical competence in PLC programming, robotics deployment, SPM architecture, and vision systems integration.
Hands-on experience with simulation and CAD/eCAD software suites such as Siemens TIA Portal, Process Simulate, TC/Vis-mockup, and SolidWorks.
Application knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques for optimizing predictive maintenance and process quality parameters.
Understanding of IoT infrastructure, line data acquisition, and automated material handling system integration.
