Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Java Developer & Team Lead with 8+ years of experience to lead a small development team while remaining hands-on across the full technology stack supporting Ithos's enterprise applications. These applications manage complex product, regulatory, and customer data.
The ideal candidate combines deep Java 8 / Java EE expertise, front-end development ability, and enterprise application architecture experience with the technical leadership skills to mentor developers, drive design decisions, and partner with product and QA to deliver reliable, secure software.
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), regulated industries, manufacturing, life sciences, or formula-based product environments is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
• Lead and mentor a small team of developers, providing hands-on code review, technical guidance, and career development support.
• Own technical delivery across the full stack — Java 8 / Java EE backend and jQuery / Bootstrap / DataTables front end.
• Drive technical decisions, balancing modernization with the stability required by established enterprise systems.
• Partner with product, architecture, and QA to plan and prioritize work, break down requirements, and estimate effort.
• Ensure the team follows appropriate security and data-handling practices when working with customer, product, and regulatory information.
Hands-On Development
• Develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications using Java 8 and Java EE/J2EE.
• Work within an existing MVC-based architecture, including Servlets, EJBs, DAOs, DTOs, and persistence layers.
• Develop and maintain database integrations using JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, and SQL.
• Build and support RESTful web services using Jersey / JAX-RS.
• Support applications deployed on WildFly and Apache TomEE.
• Work with multiple databases and data platforms, including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, DocumentDB, and Neo4j.
• Maintain and enhance existing web interfaces using jQuery, Bootstrap, and DataTables.
• Troubleshoot application, database, integration, and performance issues across the stack.
Required Qualifications
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with Java 8 and Java EE / J2EE application development.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical direction to a team of developers.
• Experience with MVC architecture and enterprise application design.
• Working knowledge of EJBs, Servlets, JPA / Hibernate, JDBC, and DAO/DTO patterns.
• Strong front-end experience with jQuery, Bootstrap, and DataTables.
• Strong experience with SQL and relational databases, preferably MySQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Experience with Java application servers such as WildFly, JBoss, TomEE, or similar.
• Experience with Maven and/or ANT, and Git / GitHub.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly learn complex business and technical domains.
• Comfortable balancing individual contribution with team leadership responsibilities.
Good to Have
• Prior experience as a tech lead or team lead within an enterprise Java environment.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Experience in regulated industries — life sciences, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food & beverage, cosmetics, or manufacturing.
• Experience with formula, recipe, ingredient, product specification, or regulatory data.
• Exposure to AWS RDS, DocumentDB, Neo4j, or OpenText Discovery Server/BRS.
• Experience integrating Java applications with C#/.NET services.
• Experience with BIRT Reports.
• Experience working with applications hosted on AWS.
• Experience maintaining or modernizing mature enterprise Java applications.
Success in This Role
Success in this role requires more than strong Java development skills. The successful candidate will be able to:
• Lead a small team while staying hands-on across the full stack.
• Quickly understand an existing enterprise architecture and contribute effectively without unnecessary disruption.
• Work comfortably across application, database, API, and integration layers.
• Understand complex product, regulatory, and customer-data requirements.
• Balance modernization with the stability and reliability required by established enterprise systems.
• Adapt quickly to new industries and business domains.
• Translate complex business requirements into practical, secure, and maintainable technical solutions, and unblock the team technically when needed.
