Job description

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electronics Hardware Design Engineer with deep expertise in the design and development of power electronics for EV charging infrastructure. This role is dedicated solely to the development of high-performance hardware solutions—from schematic design and component selection to PCB layout and integration of power conversion modules. The successful candidate will focus on the creation of innovative, scalable designs, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency for next-generation charging infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Circuit Design & Schematic Development:
    • Develop detailed schematics for high-power charging systems, including AC/DC and DC/DC converters, pre-charge circuits, and protection circuitry.
    • Design circuits incorporating high-voltage components, such as power MOSFETs (Silicon, SiC, GaN) diodes, and snubber networks for transient suppression.
    • Create isolation circuits using opto-isolators and isolation transformers to ensure safe power conversion.
  • PCB Layout & Component Integration:
    • Translate complex schematics into optimized PCB layouts, addressing high-current traces, controlled impedance, and thermal management.
    • Integrate key components including high-power converters, switching regulators, EMI filters, inductors, and capacitor banks into cohesive designs.
    • Incorporate microcontrollers, FPGAs, or dedicated power management ICs to implement digital control schemes and smart charging algorithms.
  • Advanced Power Electronics Design:
    • Engineer high-efficiency switching regulators and power conversion circuits using simulation tools (e.g., SIMetrix, SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink) to predict circuit behavior under varying loads.
    • Develop precise voltage regulation, over-voltage, and under-voltage protection mechanisms, along with current limiting and thermal shutdown features.
    • Design and optimize EMI/EMC mitigation strategies, including layout techniques, passive filtering, and shielding for robust performance in electrically noisy environments.
  • Component Specification & Integration:
    • Select and qualify critical components (capacitors, resistors, semiconductors) ensuring adherence to electrical and thermal ratings, reliability, and cost constraints.
    • Develop power distribution architectures that include advanced converters, rectifiers, and isolation modules tailored for rapid charging applications.
  • Design Documentation & Collaboration:
    • Produce comprehensive design documentation including schematics, layout files, and component specifications for review and integration into system-level designs.
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (mechanical design, firmware, system architecture) to ensure seamless integration of the hardware design into the overall charging solution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-power electronics design with a strong focus on power conversion and charging systems.
  • Proven expertise in designing high-voltage power electronics including switching regulators, converters, and isolation circuits.
  • Proficiency in using circuit design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium Designer, SIMetrix, OrCAD, SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink) for rigorous design validation.
  • In-depth knowledge of PCB layout techniques for high-current and high-voltage applications, including thermal and EMI management.

Desirable Attributes

  • Prior experience in developing charging infrastructure for EVs or renewable energy applications.
  • Familiarity with digital control implementation using microcontrollers or FPGAs in power management systems.
  • Ability to innovate and drive the design of complex hardware systems from concept through detailed design documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented mindset, with a focus on performance, efficiency, and reliability.
