experienced Performance Tester with a strong specialization in API performance testing to join our Quality Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in designing, executing, and analyzing load, stress, scalability, and endurance tests for RESTful/SOAP APIs and microservices, ensuring systems perform reliably under real-world conditions
- Design, develop, and execute performance test scripts for APIs, focusing on load, stress, spike, soak, and scalability testing.
- Define performance test strategy, NFRs (non-functional requirements), and SLAs in collaboration with architects, developers, and product owners.
- Simulate realistic API traffic patterns and concurrent user loads to identify bottlenecks, latency issues, and throughput limitations.
- Analyze API response times, error rates, resource utilization (CPU, memory, DB, network), and system behavior under load.
- Identify performance bottlenecks at the application, database, network, and infrastructure levels, and work with engineering teams to resolve them.
- Build and maintain reusable, parameterized performance test scripts and frameworks integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
- Conduct root cause analysis of performance degradation using monitoring/APM tools and correlate results with system logs and metrics.
- Prepare detailed performance test reports, including graphs, bottleneck analysis, and recommendations for tuning.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on capacity planning, environment setup, and production-readiness assessments.
- Participate in performance test planning during early SDLC phases (shift-left performance testing).
- 4–10 years of experience in software testing, with a strong focus on performance/load testing of APIs.
- Hands-on expertise with performance testing tools such as JMeter, k6, Gatling, LoadRunner, or similar.
- Strong understanding of REST/SOAP/GraphQL APIs, HTTP protocols, and request/response handling.
- Experience scripting and parameterizing performance tests, including correlation, handling authentication (OAuth, JWT, API keys), and dynamic data handling.
- Proficiency in analyzing performance metrics: response time, throughput, error rate, latency, percentiles (p90/p95/p99).
- Experience with APM and monitoring tools (Grafana, Dynatrace, New Relic, AppDynamics, Prometheus) for deep-dive analysis.
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and how they impact performance testing strategy.
- Experience integrating performance tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
- Familiarity with cloud-based load generation and distributed load testing setups.
- Basic scripting/programming skills (Java, Python, Groovy, or JavaScript) for custom test logic and result parsing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex performance data and identify root causes.
- Excellent communication skills to present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
## Good to Have
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable load generation.
- Exposure to database performance tuning and query optimization concepts.
- Experience with chaos engineering or resiliency testing.
- Knowledge of API functional/contract testing tools (Postman, RestAssured, Pact) as a complementary skill.
- Certifications such as ISTQB (Performance Testing) or equivalent.
