Job Summary
SME – PostgreSQL Database Administrator (L3)
PostgreSQL L3 Engineer/DBA with expertise in PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery, database migrations, and cloud database platforms.
Lead the administration, performance optimization, reliability, and lifecycle management of enterprise PostgreSQL database environments supporting mission-critical business applications.
The role involves providing L3 support for critical production databases, leading database migration projects, ensuring database reliability, security, and performance, and driving automation initiatives.
Serve as the PostgreSQL SME responsible for database architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, migrations, security, automation, and operational excellence.
Provide advanced L3 support for production PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability, scalability, performance, and compliance.
Drive cloud database modernization initiatives, including migrations from on-premises and legacy database platforms to cloud-native PostgreSQL services.
Partner with cloud, application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to support large-scale transformation and database modernization programs.
Key Responsibilities
Lead database migration initiatives including on-premises-to-cloud, cloud-to-cloud, and version upgrade projects.
Design and implement highly available PostgreSQL architectures utilizing replication, clustering, failover, and disaster recovery solutions.
Implement and manage PostgreSQL backup, recovery, point-in-time recovery (PITR), and business continuity solutions.
Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring and observability platforms.
Develop automation solutions for database provisioning, patching, maintenance, backup validation, compliance checks, and operational workflows.
Provide L3 technical support for critical incidents, problem management, root cause analysis (RCA), and major outage restoration activities.
Collaborate with application teams to optimize database design, schema management, SQL development, and release deployments.
Manage database security, user access controls, encryption, auditing, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements.
Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, workload analysis, and capacity planning.
Skill Requirements
Strong expertise in PostgreSQL Administration (PostgreSQL 12.x and above preferred).
Deep knowledge of: Database Architecture, Query Optimization, Performance Tuning, Indexing Strategies, Partitioning, Connection Management, Resource Optimization
Streaming Replication, Logical Replication, Failover Management, High Availability Architectures, Disaster Recovery Implementations, Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR)
Hands-on experience with cloud-hosted PostgreSQL platforms such as: Google Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, AlloyDB, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Self-Managed PostgreSQL on Kubernetes or Virtual Machines
Experience performing: Database Migrations, Platform Upgrades, Cross-Version Upgrades, Data Replication & Synchronization, Database Consolidation Projects
Strong proficiency in SQL, PL/pgSQL, and database troubleshooting.
Experience with PostgreSQL ecosystem tools including: pgAdmin, pgBackRest, Patroni, PgBouncer, WAL-G, Repmgr
Familiarity with Kubernetes-based PostgreSQL deployments and operators.
Knowledge of Linux platforms supporting PostgreSQL environments.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automation tooling.
Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, GitOps, and Database-as-Code practices.
Strong understanding of database security, auditing, encryption, access management, and regulatory compliance.

Other Requirements
Proven experience managing large-scale, mission-critical PostgreSQL environments supporting enterprise workloads.
Strong background in database migration, modernization, and cloud transformation projects.
Experience working in Agile, DevOps, SRE, and cloud-centric operating models.
PostgreSQL certification, EDB certification, Cloud Database certification, or equivalent credentials preferred.
Experience working within regulated enterprise environments with strict security and compliance requirements.
Exposure to Database Reliability Engineering (DBRE), automation-first operations, and cloud-native database platforms will be highly advantageous.
