This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a WordPress Developer based in India.

This is a hands-on WordPress development role focused on building, maintaining, optimizing, and enhancing high-quality websites.
You will work within an existing WordPress codebase, translating business requirements into reliable technical solutions.
The role combines custom WordPress development with SEO, responsive design, website performance, content management, and troubleshooting.
You will build and customize themes, plugins, templates, widgets, and website functionality using modern web technologies.
Performance optimization is a key focus, including Core Web Vitals, caching, image delivery, frontend assets, and database efficiency.
You will also help maintain technical SEO foundations and resolve issues across development, staging, and production environments.
This opportunity suits a developer who can work independently, investigate root causes carefully, and make production changes without compromising existing functionality.

• Develop, customize, maintain, and enhance WordPress websites based on business requirements.
• Customize WordPress themes, templates, plugins, widgets, and other website components.
• Build and manage pages using Gutenberg and Elementor.
• Develop custom functionality using PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and related web technologies.
• Work with WordPress Actions, Filters, Hooks, and Template Hierarchy.
• Implement and maintain Custom Post Types and Custom Taxonomies when required.
• Work with the WordPress REST API and integrate third-party APIs.
• Manage WordPress pages, posts, categories, tags, menus, media, and other CMS functionality.
• Ensure websites provide consistent and responsive experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
• Implement and maintain on-page and technical SEO requirements within WordPress.
• Optimize SEO titles, meta descriptions, focus keyphrases, URLs, heading structures, canonical URLs, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, internal links, image alt text, Open Graph metadata, and structured data/schema.
• Support SEO-friendly content publishing and website updates while troubleshooting common crawling, indexing, and technical SEO issues.
• Analyze and improve website performance, identifying and resolving page-load and other performance bottlenecks.
• Optimize websites for Core Web Vitals through caching, image optimization, frontend asset delivery, lazy loading, and related techniques.
• Investigate database and query-related performance issues and implement appropriate improvements.
• Troubleshoot WordPress core, themes, plugins, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, and frontend issues.
• Investigate problems systematically, identify root causes, and implement fixes without disrupting existing functionality.
• Resolve plugin conflicts and compatibility issues.
• Safely perform WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates.
• Troubleshoot 404 errors, broken links, redirects, layout issues, and other website problems.
• Support website backups, migrations, staging environments, and production maintenance.
• Monitor website functionality and proactively identify potential technical issues.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional experience in WordPress development.
• Strong understanding of the WordPress CMS, theme and plugin customization, and custom WordPress development.
• Proficiency in PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, basic jQuery, MySQL, JSON, and REST APIs.
• Experience with Gutenberg, Elementor, WordPress Template Hierarchy, Custom Post Types, and Custom Taxonomies.
• Knowledge of on-page and technical SEO, including tools such as AIOSEO, Yoast SEO, or Rank Math.
• Understanding of Core Web Vitals, PageSpeed optimization, caching, image optimization, lazy loading, CDN concepts, and database/query optimization.
• Experience with cPanel and WordPress hosting environments such as Hostinger.
• Knowledge of domain and DNS fundamentals, SSL, FTP/SFTP, website migration, backup and restore procedures, and staging/production environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to make production changes carefully and systematically.
• Ability to understand business requirements and independently translate them into practical technical solutions.
• Good to have: experience developing custom WordPress plugins and themes.
• Good to have: advanced REST API integrations and experience with Google Analytics/GA4.
• Good to have: experience with Cloudflare, CDN configuration, and WordPress security or malware troubleshooting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain website reliability while introducing technical improvements.
