As a Platform Engineer within the Data and Analytics team, you will design, build, operate, and continuously improve the shared platforms and engineering capabilities that enable secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective data and application delivery. Working closely with data engineers, architects, security teams, and business stakeholders, you will automate platform operations, strengthen DevOps practices, and ensure that platform services meet agreed standards for availability, performance, governance, and support. Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, resilient, and highly available platform services supporting data engineering, analytics, and application workloads. Provision and configure cloud infrastructure and platform services, primarily on Microsoft Azure, using infrastructure-as-code and repeatable deployment patterns. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated release processes for infrastructure, platform configurations, data workloads, and applications. Implement platform observability, including monitoring, logging, alerting, service health dashboards, and capacity/performance tracking. Manage platform reliability and operational readiness, including incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, service requests, and continuous improvement against SLAs/SLOs. Apply security-by-design principles, including identity and access management, least-privilege access, secrets management, network controls, encryption, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements. Support and optimize data platform services and integrations, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Databricks, event streaming, APIs, and related services as applicable. Automate routine operational tasks and platform provisioning to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and accelerate engineering delivery. Manage platform capacity, performance, availability, and cost; identify optimization opportunities and provide transparent usage and cost reporting. Establish and maintain reusable platform patterns, templates, standards, technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures. Collaborate with data engineering, application development, architecture, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to resolve dependencies and deliver platform capabilities. Support environment management across development, test, and production, including configuration management, deployment controls, backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery testing. Evaluate platform capabilities and engineering tools, conduct proofs of concept where needed, and recommend improvements based on security, reliability, usability, and cost. Contribute to Agile delivery, technical design reviews, change management, and knowledge sharing across engineering teams. Requirements Skills and Technical Expertise Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, and services supporting data, analytics, and application workloads. Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates. Strong knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices using tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, including source control, branching, release management, and deployment automation. Experience with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/AKS is an advantage. Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including virtual networks, private endpoints, DNS, firewalls, routing, and secure connectivity. Experience implementing identity and access management, managed identities, service principals, secrets management, and role-based access control. Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools, log analytics, alerting, incident management, and performance troubleshooting. Working knowledge of data platform technologies such as Azure Data Factory, ADLS, Databricks, SQL, and event streaming tools such as Kafka or Event Hubs. Understanding of security, governance, resilience, backup, disaster recovery, and regulatory/compliance controls in enterprise environments. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, analyze root causes, document solutions, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Awareness of cloud cost management, resource tagging, usage attribution, capacity planning, and optimization practices. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across multiple engineering teams and delivery methodologies. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline. Typically 8+ years of experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or a related technical role. Practical experience building, automating, and supporting cloud infrastructure and shared platform services in enterprise environments. Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code implementations. Experience with production support, incident management, monitoring, and service-level commitments. Experience implementing cloud security controls, access management, network security, and operational best practices. Experience supporting data and analytics platforms is desirable. Relevant cloud, DevOps, Kubernetes, or platform engineering certifications are an advantage.
