Engineering Manager (Frontend)
Lead a frontend POD owning web and mobile (8–10 engineers)
Company: Valeo Health
Location: HSR Layout, Bengaluru — Work from Office (WFO only)
Reporting to: Head of Engineering / CTO
About Valeo Health
Valeo Health is a preventive healthcare and wellness platform operating across Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), offering diagnostics, teleconsultation, AI-driven health insights, supplements, and care programs. We are building AI-first, compliant, and scalable
healthcare platforms that handle sensitive health data while delivering reliable, high-quality customer experiences across geographies.
Role Overview
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a frontend-focused POD of 8–10 engineers responsible for building, scaling, and operating Valeo’s web and mobile experiences. Your POD owns both surfaces end to end — Next.js / React.js web platforms and React Native mobile apps —
partnering closely with Backend, Product, Design, and QA teams to ship reliable, accessible, multilanguage healthcare experiences across markets.
You will combine strong people leadership with hands-on technical depth in modern frontend, mobile, and cross-platform engineering practices.
The Mindset We Hire For
These three traits matter more than any specific technology on your CV. If they don’t describe you, this is not the right role.
• Ownership: You don’t escalate problems — you bring solutions. When something breaks in your POD’s surface, or in something a partner team depends on you for, you own it until it’s resolved, regardless of who wrote the code.
• Deliver Results: You measure your POD in outcomes shipped, not stand-ups attended. You can tell us what your team delivered last quarter, what changed for users or the business because of it, and what you would do differently.
• Quick to Learn: You’ve operated in domains, codebases, or organisational structures that were unfamiliar to you and got productive fast. Startup environments and ambiguous problem spaces don’t slow you down.
What We Expect from Our Engineering Managers
Own Delivery & Execution
• Own end-to-end delivery for web and mobile experiences through a POD model.
• Translate product requirements and design specs into clear technical execution plans for both web and mobile.
• Coordinate with Backend, Product, Design, and QA teams to ship full features — web, mobile, and supporting APIs — to users.
• Balance speed, quality, performance, and accessibility in day-to-day decisions.
Lead Teams Effectively
• Manage and mentor a team of 8–10 frontend engineers (web and mobile).
• Drive sprint planning, estimation, execution, and delivery predictability across both surfaces.
• Provide regular feedback, performance coaching, and career development support.
• Make hiring decisions and grow the team in line with business priorities.
Stay Technically Strong
• Review architecture, component design, and state management decisions for both web and mobile codebases.
• Ensure high standards for code quality, testing, performance, and observability.
• Act as the technical escalation point for blockers, performance issues, and production incidents.
• Make pragmatic tradeoffs between shared cross-platform code and platform-specific implementations.
Build Secure, Accessible & Localised Experiences
• Ensure adherence to secure SDLC practices, especially around PII/PHI handling on web and mobile.
• Drive accessibility (WCAG) and internationalisation (i18n, including RTL layouts for Arabic) across all customer surfaces.
• Manage mobile release cycles (App Store, Play Store), review processes, and version rollouts.
• Collaborate with Compliance and Security teams on HIPAA, ISO 27001, UAE PDPL, and KSA PDPL standards as they apply to frontend.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead development and maintenance of Valeo’s customer-facing web app, marketing site, and React Native mobile apps (iOS + Android).
• Manage sprint execution, backlog prioritisation, and frontend tech debt within your POD.
• Partner with Product Managers, Design Leads, and Backend EMs to define end-to-end solutions and delivery timelines.
• Drive mobile release management — coordinate App Store and Play Store submissions, manage version rollouts, monitor crash rates and performance.
• Improve Web Vitals, mobile app performance, and overall UX quality across markets.
• Hire, onboard, and grow web and mobile engineering talent.
• Foster a strong engineering culture with ownership, design empathy, and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Qualifications
Experience
• 5–10 years of frontend or full-stack engineering experience, with deep focus on frontend (web and/or mobile).
• 2+ years as a Frontend Lead, Engineering Manager, or Senior Tech Lead managing 6 or more engineers.
• Direct experience leading both web (React.js / Next.js) and mobile (React Native) teams, or strong willingness to own both.
• Direct experience operating in a POD model where teams own features end to end and coordinate closely with adjacent disciplines (backend, design, product, QA).
• Startup experience is a strong plus — comfort with ambiguity, speed of decision-making, and wearing multiple hats.
• Exposure to healthcare, fintech, or other regulated, high-trust domains is a plus.
Technical Skills
• Strong hands-on experience with React.js and Next.js (SSR/SSG, performance optimisation, app architecture).
• Strong hands-on experience with React Native (state management, native module integration, build pipelines for iOS and Android).
• Proficient in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
• Familiarity with state management approaches (Redux, Redux Toolkit, Context API, Zustand) and when to use which.
• Solid understanding of REST API integration, async patterns, and frontend-backend contracts.
• Experience with performance optimisation, accessibility (WCAG), responsive design, and i18n including RTL layouts.
• Familiarity with mobile build/deploy tooling (Xcode, Android Studio, Fastlane, CodePush or similar).
• Understanding of analytics, performance monitoring, and crash reporting (Sentry, Firebase, etc.).
• Awareness of frontend security best practices, including secure handling of PII/PHI.
Leadership & Mindset
• Strong people-management and stakeholder-communication skills.
• Demonstrated track record of cross-team collaboration with Backend, Product, and Design peers.
• Design empathy — you can have substantive conversations with designers, not just developers.
• Ability to operate in ambiguity while maintaining delivery discipline.
• High ownership, bias for action, and customer-first mindset.
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
• Your POD ships full end-to-end customer experiences — web and mobile, integrated cleanly with backend services — on predictable timelines.
• Measurable improvement in frontend performance: Web Vitals on the web app, cold-start time and crash rates on mobile.
• Clear ownership across web and mobile surfaces, with accessibility and i18n standards consistently met.
• Strong team growth — including at least one engineer ready for promotion within the year, and clear leadership tracks for senior frontend engineers.
• Cross-functional partners (Backend leads, PMs, Designers) consistently describe your POD as easy to collaborate with.
• Smooth mobile release cadence with reduced production incidents.
