Application Support Engineer - Swing Shift

The Application Support Engineer supports the stability, availability, and performance of GIA’s Laboratory Grading System by assisting with application monitoring, incident response, and operational support activities. This role focuses on proactive system monitoring, ticket handling, and basic troubleshooting of enterprise applications used in laboratory operations. Working under the guidance of the Application Support Lead and Senior Application Support Engineers, this position assists in identifying system issues, documenting incidents, and supporting routine operational tasks. This role provides an opportunity to build technical expertise in enterprise application support, while contributing to reliable and efficient system operations.

Essential Duties

Application Monitoring & Incident Support

· Monitor application health and performance using enterprise monitoring tools.

· Respond to and log incidents and service requests in the ticketing system.

· Perform basic incident triage and gather relevant logs and system information for troubleshooting.

· Escalate incidents to Senior Application Support Engineer or the Lead when necessary.

· Ensure accurate documentation and status updates for all assigned tickets.

Application Support & Technical Assistance

· Assist in troubleshooting issues related to Java-based enterprise applications and integrations.

· Review application logs and system alerts to identify potential system issues.

· Support applications running on Linux environments and Oracle or other relational databases.

· Assist senior team members in diagnosing application errors and system performance issues.

· Participate in routine system health checks and monitoring activities.

Release Support, Documentation & Learning

· Assist in validating application functionality during application releases, upgrades, and maintenance windows.

· Support documentation of troubleshooting procedures, operational steps, and knowledge base articles.

· Participate in team knowledge sharing and training activities.

· Follow established operational procedures and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Compentencies

• Basic understanding of enterprise application support processes.
• Basic working knowledge of Java-based applications and web technologies.
• Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as Oracle.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems and application logs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and collaboration skills when working with technical teams.
• Ability to follow defined processes and escalate issues appropriately.
• Willingness to learn modern technologies including AI-enabled and automation-driven platforms.
  

Qualifications

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.

· 2 to 4 years of experience in application support, IT operations, or technical support roles.

· Basic understanding of enterprise applications, APIs, and system integrations.

· Exposure to Linux systems, application monitoring tools, or database environments preferred.

· Basic SQL knowledge with exposure to Oracle or other relational databases is preferred.

Certifications preferred:

· ITIL Foundation Certification (IT Service Management)

· Oracle SQL or Database Fundamentals certification

· AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Fundamentals certification

· Entry-level DevOps or monitoring certifications

· AI or machine learning fundamentals certification (optional)
