Job description

Purpose of the Role

The Flutter Developer (Mobile, SDK & Web) is the hands-on engineering owner of the Connected Cars Platform's cross-platform client layer — responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Flutter-based mobile applications, reusable SDKs, and progressive web interfaces that deliver the vehicle owner experience across Android, iOS, and browser targets.

The role covers the complete client-side engineering lifecycle: translating product and UX wireframes into pixel-perfect, performant Flutter interfaces; developing and publishing platform-agnostic Dart SDKs consumed by first-party apps and third-party integrators; integrating with secure REST and gRPC APIs backed by OpenAPI specifications; and implementing robust authentication and authorisation flows including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and deep-link-based vehicle login. The engineer also maintains native bridging layers on Android and iOS where Flutter's plugin ecosystem does not cover platform-specific capabilities.

Job Responsibilities:

Flutter Application Development:

  • Architect and develop production-grade Flutter applications targeting Android, iOS, and web from a single codebase, maintaining platform-specific fidelity where required.
  • Implement complex, stateful UI using Flutter's widget tree, Riverpod / BLoC / Provider patterns, and declarative navigation with GoRouter or auto_route.
  • Build and publish reusable Dart packages and Flutter SDKs — covering connectivity, telemetry consumption, remote command dispatch, and authentication — consumed internally and by third-party integration partners.
  • Develop Flutter Web builds deployed as progressive web apps (PWA) with offline capability, deep-link routing, and responsive layouts across breakpoints.
  • Integrate platform channels and method channels to bridge Flutter with native Android (Kotlin/Java) and iOS (Swift/Objective-C) device APIs — Bluetooth, push notifications, keystore access, and background services.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines (Fastlane, Codemagic, or GitHub Actions) for automated build, test, and distribution across Play Store, App Store, and internal MDM channels.
  • Write and maintain unit, widget, and integration tests achieving defined coverage thresholds; participate in peer code reviews and enforce Flutter/Dart best practices.

UI/UX Engineering & Design System:

  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to translate Figma specifications into Flutter widgets with sub-pixel accuracy, consistent motion, and Material 3 / custom design language compliance.
  • Build and maintain a shared Flutter design system — tokens, components, themes — that enforces the brand across all apps and web surfaces.
  • Implement responsive and adaptive layouts for varied screen densities, aspect ratios, and input modalities (touch, rotary, voice) including in-vehicle IVI targets.
  • Apply accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) across all Flutter surfaces — semantic labels, screen-reader compatibility, contrast compliance, and keyboard navigation.
  • Prototype and validate interaction concepts rapidly using Flutter's hot-reload environment, gathering feedback from UX researchers and product owners before production builds.
  • Instrument UI performance — frame rates, jank, startup latency — using Flutter DevTools and drive continuous improvement against defined benchmarks.

API Integration, OpenAPI & Security:

  • Consume and integrate cloud REST APIs defined by OpenAPI 3.x specifications; generate type-safe Dart client code using openapi-generator and maintain client–server contract alignment.
  • Design and implement authentication and authorisation flows — OAuth 2.0 Authorization Code + PKCE, OpenID Connect, device flow (RFC 8628) for in-vehicle login — using flutter_appauth and secure token storage.
  • Implement token lifecycle management: silent refresh, revocation, biometric-guarded keychain/keystore storage, and encrypted local persistence (flutter_secure_storage).
  • Integrate mutual TLS (mTLS) and certificate pinning for high-assurance channels between the app and the connected vehicle backend.
  • Develop secure deep-link and universal link handling for cross-app and in-vehicle IVI launch flows, validating intent origin and preventing open-redirect vulnerabilities.
  • Apply OWASP Mobile Top 10 principles across app code: prevent cleartext credential storage, enforce runtime permission checks, obfuscate release builds, and integrate dynamic security scanning in CI.
  • Work closely with the cybersecurity team during threat modelling and security design reviews for all new client-facing features.

Native Platform Bridging:

  • Write Android platform channel implementations in Kotlin — accessing BluetoothLE APIs, Android Keystore for cryptographic operations, FCM push integration, and foreground service management.
  • Write iOS platform channel implementations in Swift — integrating with Keychain Services, APNs, CoreBluetooth, and Background Modes.
  • Read and understand native Android Automotive OS (AAOS) app manifests and car-specific APIs where the Flutter app runs in an embedded or companion context.
  • Diagnose and resolve native-layer crashes reported via Crashlytics / Sentry, triaging between Dart, JVM, and native stack frames.

Performance, Quality & Observability:

  • Define and track app quality KPIs: crash-free session rate, API error rate, cold/warm start time, and widget render budget adherence.
  • Integrate Firebase Performance Monitoring and custom traces to surface regressions in CI before reaching production.
  • Conduct memory profiling and detect leak patterns in Dart isolates and platform channel callbacks.
  • Establish golden-image regression testing for critical UI flows using flutter_test and Patrol.

Collaboration & Process:

  • Translate product requirements and UX wireframes into technical specifications, breaking work into Sprint-deliverable tasks with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to define API contracts via OpenAPI early in the feature lifecycle, preventing late-stage integration rework.
  • Contribute to the platform's mobile-first developer experience — SDK documentation, code samples, integration guides — for internal teams and external partners.
  • Mentor junior Flutter engineers and enforce code quality through structured pull-request reviews and internal tech talks.
  • Participate in the connected car platform's quarterly architecture council to align client-side evolution with platform roadmap.

Desired Candidate Profile:

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • M.E. / M.Tech or relevant professional certifications (Google Flutter Certified, AWS Mobile, CKAD) are desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years of total software engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on Flutter development — at least one released production app on both Google Play and the App Store.
  • Demonstrated experience shipping Flutter SDK packages to pub.dev or internal package registries.
  • Proven track record of integrating OAuth 2.0 / OIDC authentication flows and OpenAPI-specified backend services in mobile or web applications.
  • Experience in the automotive, mobility, or connected-device domain is a strong advantage.
  • Flutter SDK (stable channel) — widget lifecycle, rendering pipeline, platform channels, plugin authorship
  • Dart language — async/await, isolates, generics, extension methods, null safety
  • State management — Riverpod 2.x, BLoC / Cubit, Provider
  • Navigation — GoRouter, auto_route, deep-link and universal-link handling
  • Flutter Web — PWA configuration, web renderers (CanvasKit / HTML), SEO considerations
  • Testing — flutter_test, mockito, Patrol, golden image testing
  • CI/CD — Fastlane, Codemagic, GitHub Actions for multi-platform Flutter builds
  • Figma — reading specs, extracting tokens, exporting assets for Flutter
  • Material Design 3 theming, custom design system authorship in Flutter
  • Responsive / adaptive layout, LayoutBuilder, MediaQuery, and platform-adaptive widgets
  • Animations — implicit/explicit animations, AnimationController, Lottie / Rive integration
  • Accessibility — Semantics widget, ExcludeSemantics, WCAG 2.1 AA compliance
  • Performance tooling — Flutter DevTools, timeline profiling, shader warm-up
  • OpenAPI 3.x specification — reading, validating, and generating Dart clients (openapi-generator)
  • OAuth 2.0 flows — Authorization Code + PKCE, Client Credentials, Device Flow (RFC 8628)
  • OpenID Connect (OIDC) — ID token validation, JWKS, userinfo endpoint
  • Secure token storage — flutter_secure_storage, Android Keystore, iOS Keychain
  • HTTPS certificate pinning, mTLS, and TLS session handling in Dart's HttpClient
  • OWASP Mobile Top 10 and secure mobile development lifecycle practices
  • JWT structure, claims, and validation (expiry, audience, issuer, signature)
  • Android development — Kotlin / Java, Gradle build system, Android Manifest, Jetpack basics
  • iOS development — Swift, Xcode project structure, Podfile dependency management, Info.plist
  • Flutter method channel and event channel implementation on both platforms
  • Android Automotive OS (AAOS) app model — car-specific permissions, media and notification APIs
  • BluetoothLE, FCM / APNs, and background execution models on Android and iOS
  • Git branching strategies (trunk-based development, GitFlow)
  • Firebase suite — Crashlytics, Remote Config, App Distribution, Performance Monitoring
  • App Store Connect and Google Play Console — release management, staged rollouts
  • REST API tooling — Postman, Swagger UI, curl for contract validation
  • Observability — Sentry, DataDog RUM, or equivalent for mobile crash and performance monitoring
