Software Test Engineer II (Python OR Ruby)

General Summary:

The Software Test Engineer II is responsible for creating and maintaining automated tests from manual test scripts and test cases. This role works in partnership with the Engineering teams to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, and potential problems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provides support to the Quality Engineering teams, with a high attention to detail in a disciplined agile environment

• Researches, analyzes, and documents findings

• Tests complex API, web, and network/infrastructure based applications that reference database back-end systems

• Creates and maintains automated test cases, executes test suites, reviews and diagnoses reported bugs, and ensures overall system quality prior to a customer release

• Designs, develops, maintains, and troubleshoots automated suites of tests through continuous integration for value added feedback

• Derives testing requirements throughout the development cycle

• Reproduces, debugs, and isolates problems and verifies fixes

• Assists in creation of software artifacts including test plans, test cases, test procedures, and test reports

• Plans test schedules and/or strategies in accordance with project scope and delivery dates

• Reviews software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, and completeness and to mitigate risks

• Provides feedback and recommendations to Engineering teams on software usability and functionality

• Identifies program deviance from standards and suggests modifications to ensure compliance

• Develops and specifies standards, methods, or procedures to determine product quality or release readiness

• Conducts historical analyses of test results

• Collaborates with colleagues to evaluate or diagnose problems and recommend possible solutions

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required:

• Strong proficiency in Python/Ruby programming and experience writing and maintaining automated tests using Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) frameworks (e.g. Behave)

• Solid experience with Git version control, including branching strategies, pull request workflows and managing Git submodules

• Hands-on experience integrating, executing and troubleshooting automated test suites within pipelines, specifically using Jenkins and/or GitLab Runners

• Practical experience interacting with, configuring, or managing virtualized environments, particularly VMWare ESXi

• Solid knowledge of Linux, Windows, MacOS operating systems, including basic system administration and command-line usage

• Working knowledge of IP networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, routing and subnets) and an understanding of basic firewall configurations

• Ability to work independently on projects and processes with close supervision

• Broad theoretical knowledge of applicable work area

• Ability to situationally adapt and understand new technology/processes as per business requirement

• Knowledge of quality assurance methodologies

• Proven ability to develop using object-oriented programming language in automation frameworks

• Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

• Knowledge of basic builds and deployments

• Ability to update base level classes without causing issues

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to meet reasonable deadlines

• Strong team player with the ability to build positive and collaborative relationships

• Knowledge of programming concepts and ability to read complex manual test cases and implement new actions, fragments, and scripts

Educational/Vocational/Previous Experience Recommendations:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent business experience
• 2+ years of relevant experience
