Senior Consultant - Quality Assurance

WSP is seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Lead to establish and lead practical QA practices for our Digital Environment development team. This hands-on role will define quality strategy, improve delivery processes, guide testing activities, and promote shared ownership of quality across the software development lifecycle.

The team delivers data management, software development, and web-based weather information services for internal and external clients using cloud technologies and Agile delivery practices.

Quality Strategy, Governance & Process Leadership
• Define and implement a practical QA strategy, operating model, standards, roadmap, and supporting templates.
• Assess current practices, identify quality risks and process gaps, and prioritize measurable improvements.
• Establish quality gates, release-readiness practices, defect workflows, and test evidence expectations.
Test Planning, Automation & Execution
• Lead risk-based test planning for features, integrations, data workflows, and production releases.
• Perform and oversee manual and automated testing across web, API, data-processing, and mobile solutions.
• Develop and maintain the team’s test automation approach, including standards and CI/CD integration.
• Track defects and quality risks, support timely resolution, and turn findings into process improvements.
Team Leadership & Capability Development
• Provide technical direction, mentoring, and coordination for QA professionals and others performing testing.
• Help shape QA roles, responsibilities, recruitment, onboarding, and future team structure.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
• Participate in Agile planning, refinement, stand-ups, demonstrations, retrospectives, and release planning.
• Provide evidence-based recommendations on product quality, release readiness, and material risks.
• Promote shared ownership of quality rather than treating QA as a final testing step.

• 7+ years of software QA experience, including senior, lead, or equivalent responsibilities.

• Experience defining and improving QA processes, standards, governance, measures, and team practices.

• Experience leading or mentoring QA professionals; formal supervisory experience is an asset.

• Strong knowledge of testing methods, risk-based testing, defect management, root-cause analysis, and quality engineering.

• Hands-on test automation experience using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or comparable frameworks.

• Experience testing web applications, APIs, integrations, data-processing workflows, and CI/CD quality controls.

• Strong analytical, facilitation, and communication, and skills.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience with cloud services, especially Amazon Web Services, and 24/7 operational systems.

• Experience with performance, reliability, accessibility, security, mobile, or usability testing.

• Experience testing data-intensive, geospatial, environmental, weather, or other operationally critical systems.
