Job Summary
Job Description – Linux Administrator
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: Target Cloud Provisioning: Deploy and configure target cloud infrastructure (Azure Virtual Machines, GCP Compute Engine, Virtual Networks, and Managed Disks) to receive migrating Linux workloads. Migration Execution: Install, configure, and troubleshoot replication mobility agents on source Linux servers using tools like Azure Migrate, ASR, or GCP Migrate for Compute. Pre-Migration OS Preparation: Audit and prepare source Linux operating systems (e.g., verifying LVM layouts, validating GRUB boot configurations, checking disk space, and ensuring compatible kernel versions). Post-Migration OS Remediation: Execute critical post-cutover tasks, including uninstalling legacy on-premises hypervisor tools (VMware Tools), updating network interface cards (NICs), rebuilding initramfs, and configuring cloud-native VM agents. L2 Incident Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve post-migration Linux boot failures, network configuration anomalies, and disk mounting (FSTAB) issues. Storage & Volume Management: Administer Logical Volume Manager (LVM), partitioning, and mounting of NFS/CIFS network file systems post-migration. Patching & Upgrades: Apply routine OS patching, security updates, and packages during migration prep windows utilizing Red Hat Satellite or SUSE Manager.
Skill Requirements
4+ years of dedicated experience in enterprise Linux Administration (RHEL and SUSE). 2+ years of hands-on experience deploying and administering Linux instances inside Microsoft Azure or GCP. Proven hands-on experience executing server migrations using Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery (ASR), or similar replication tools. Strong working knowledge of Linux Volume Management (LVM), GRUB/GRUB2 bootloaders, and system initialization (systemd/SysVinit). Proficiency in writing and debugging Bash scripts to automate repetitive post-migration cleanup and validation tasks. Solid understanding of standard networking concepts (TCP/IP routing, DNS configuration, and SSH key management). Non-Technical Technical Runbook Discipline: Exceptional attention to detail when executing step-by-step technical migration runbooks during strict maintenance windows. ITSM & ServiceNow Operations: Practical experience adhering to Change, Incident, and Problem Management workflows in ServiceNow. Support & Collaboration: Strong team player who coordinates effectively with Storage, Network, and Database teams during complex application migration cutovers. Documentation: Ability to draft clear, technical standard operating procedures (SOPs) and post-migration validation checks.
Other Requirements
Good to Have Skills: Basic understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible. Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker/Podman) running on Linux. Experience with multi-pathing configurations and SAN/NAS storage attachments. Soft Skills: Structured Problem Solving: Methodical, logical approach to diagnosing kernel crashes, network interface drops, or disk-mount errors. Adaptability: Resilience and flexibility to support weekend or off-hour migration cutover bridges. Clear Communication: Ability to communicate technical roadblocks and resolution statuses clearly to the Migration Lead. Certifications: RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or SUSE Certified Administrator, AZ-104 OR GCP Associate Cloud Engineer, ITIL v4 Foundation.
