Firmware Development - Specialist (SW&S)

About the Role:

Lead the development of embedded firmware for power electronic inverters driving traction motors (PMSM, BLDC, Induction) in Electric Vehicles, industrial drives, and power conversion systems. As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you will own motor control algorithms, real-time firmware architecture, and hardware-software integration while mentoring junior engineers.

What We're Looking For:

Must-Have Technical Skills

• 8-12 years in embedded firmware for motor control inverters/Power Electronics.
• Expertise in Embedded C (MISRA C compliant) and real-time systems
• Hands-on experience with motor control MCUs: Infineon AURIX, TI C2000, Renesas
• Deep knowledge of FOC, SVPWM, power electronics fundamentals
• Proven experience with SIL/HIL testing, motor dyno validation

Tools & Methodologies

• Debug tools: oscilloscopes, JTAG, Lauterbach
• IDEs: Tasking, IAR, Code Composer Studio
• Version control: Git, SVN

Role

Key Responsibilities:

1. Motor Control Algorithm Implementation

• Develop Field Oriented Control (FOC), V/f control, torque/speed loops
• Implement SVPWM/DPWM strategies and feedback loops (current, voltage, speed, temperature)
• Support all operating modes: startup, run, regen, fault handling, limp-home

2. Low-Level Firmware & MCU Development

• Design bare-metal/RTOS firmware on motor control MCUs (Infineon AURIX, TI C2000, Renesas)
• Configure ADC, PWM, Timers, DMA, CAN/SPI/UART peripherals
• Develop bootloaders, firmware updates, and optimize ISR/control loop timing

3. Hardware-Software Integration

• Interface with gate drivers, current/voltage sensors, resolvers/encoders
• Lead hardware bring-up, board validation, and debug activities
• Collaborate with power electronics and hardware teams

4. Safety, Diagnostics & Fault Management

• Implement over-current/voltage, thermal protection, short-circuit detection
• Develop fault classification, recovery strategies, and limp-home functionality
• Ensure ISO 26262 compliance (ASIL-B/C awareness)

5. Communication & Vehicle Integration

• Implement CAN communication stacks for torque commands, diagnostics (UDS), and calibration
• Integrate inverter with VCU, BMS, Gateway systems

6. Testing & Validation

• Execute SIL, HIL, dyno, bench testing and calibration (PI tuning)
• Debug using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, logic analyzers
• Support EMI/EMC and environmental qualification
