Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Senior Engineer - CAE, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the performance and safety of vehicle components and systems through your expertise in finite element modelling. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Develop comprehensive tractor and system-level finite element (FE) models utilizing advanced CAE software such as Hypermesh, Assy Workbench, and Simlab, tailoring tools to project needs.
  • Generate executable analysis decks in prominent solvers including Nastran, Abaqus, Ansys, and Optistruct, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in simulations.
  • Analyze and interpret model behaviors to identify potential design improvements and validate structural performance.
  • Execute rapid design iterations to align with stringent project timelines, demonstrating agility and precision in model adjustments.
  • Collaborate closely with design teams to recommend modifications that enhance durability while maintaining functionality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Perform detailed fatigue analyses to estimate component lifespan under various load conditions, applying robust engineering principles.
  • Leverage optimization tools such as Optistruct, Mode Frontier, and Genesis to refine structural designs, balancing performance and material usage.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, overseeing model development, troubleshooting software issues, and ensuring quality deliverables.
  • Create and critically review CAE analysis reports, communicating findings and recommendations clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Manage CAE projects within the tractor division, developing project plans, monitoring progress, and presenting technical results to senior management and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of vehicle systems, strengthening collaboration across engineering disciplines.
  • Apply fundamental principles from strength of materials, applied mechanics, and finite element methods to underpin all modeling activities.
  • Assign appropriate thicknesses, material properties, and boundary conditions to components ensuring realistic representation in FE models.
  • Construct finite element assemblies reflecting the true vehicle structure, with thorough understanding of various joining methods including spot and seam welding to simulate connection integrity accurately.

Experience

To thrive in this position, you should possess:

  • Candidates should possess 6 to 9 years of substantial experience in CAE engineering within automotive or heavy machinery sectors, ideally involving tractor system design and analysis.
  • Expertise in using leading CAE software for finite element modeling and analysis is essential, with a track record of applying these tools to complex vehicle or heavy equipment structures.
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams and leading projects that require cross-functional collaboration for design optimization and durability assurance is highly preferred.
  • The successful applicant will have demonstrated capability in fatigue analysis, structural optimization, and problem-solving under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in preparing professional-level technical reports and presenting findings to senior leadership and multidiscipline teams is necessary.

Industry Preferred

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in the automotive industry, specifically in tractor or heavy vehicle manufacturing.

Relevant industries include agricultural machinery, construction equipment, and commercial vehicles, where structural durability and design optimization are crucial.

Exposure to product development cycles in manufacturing companies that emphasize innovation and rigorous testing standards will be advantageous.

Qualifications

Candidates with background in companies focusing on CAE-driven engineering design and collaborative product development environments will find this role aligns well with their expertise

  • Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or related fields, preferably from premier institutions such as IITs, supported by a strong academic record (GATE score above 90% is highly desirable).
  • Extensive academic grounding in strength of materials, finite element analysis, and material science.
  • Proficiency in state-of-the-art CAE software tools used for modeling, simulation, and optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills, with an ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable engineering decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate across teams and convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including team management and mentoring experience.

General Requirements

General requirements for the role include:

  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills combined with the ability to think critically under pressure.
