As a Lead Engineer in NVH at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will take a pivotal role in planning and executing Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) requirements for Internal Combustion engines, Electric Powertrains, and Driveline components during the virtual simulation stages of vehicle development.
Your core responsibilities will include defining and developing comprehensive NVH target sheets, ensuring these targets are met within validation and verification stages while adhering to project timelines, budget, and performance standards.
You will lead benchmarking efforts against industry standards, perform target setting, and contribute crucial inputs for new vehicle projects focusing on NVH aspects across IC engines, electric powertrains, and drivelines.
The role demands mentoring and developing the Powertrain NVH team members, fostering a collaborative environment to meet project goals effectively.
Innovating through the exploration and application of advanced simulation tools and automation techniques within NVH development is essential.
You will also spearhead the creation and refinement of processes, guidelines, and procedures aimed at continuous productivity improvement from NVH perspectives, ensuring alignment with the latest technological advances and manufacturing requirements.
Key technical expertise includes mastery in simulation tools such as Nastran, HyperMesh, Actran, AVL Excite, Romax, and Valvdyne. A profound understanding of motor whine noise, gear whine, rattles, and their simulation, along with gear design considerations for NVH, will be crucial.
You will apply knowledge in FEM, BEM, and SEA methodologies to deliver high-fidelity virtual validations related to powertrain and driveline NVH aspects, encompassing both traditional IC engines and electric powertrains.
Furthermore, this role includes close collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate NVH insights into powertrain and driveline integration, balancing noise control measures and performance optimization through both virtual and physical validation stages.
The ideal candidate will possess 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in NVH engineering, primarily focused on powertrain and driveline systems within the automotive industry. Proven expertise in virtual simulation techniques for NVH prediction and analysis is essential.
Demonstrated experience in leading small to medium-sized technical teams, including mentoring and guiding engineers to achieve project milestones within stipulated timelines, will be highly valued.
Candidates should have a strong background in using specialized NVH software and familiarity with advanced simulation methodologies such as finite element methods (FEM), boundary element methods (BEM), and statistical energy analysis (SEA). Prior involvement in electric vehicle powertrain NVH development or simulation would be considered a significant advantage.
Experience coordinating with manufacturing and testing teams to address NVH challenges throughout product development phases will also be crucial, emphasizing a holistic understanding of NVH from conceptualization through to testing and validation.
The preferred industry background includes the automotive sector, with specific experience gathered from OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or specialized engineering consulting firms that focus on powertrain and vehicle NVH engineering.
Familiarity with electric mobility technologies and experience supporting electrified powertrains in addition to conventional IC engine platforms is highly desirable, representing the evolving nature of vehicle propulsion systems.
Exposure to companies involved in advanced simulation and engineering tools development, automotive research and development, as well as manufacturers known for innovative powertrain NVH solutions, will provide a strong foundation for success in this role.
Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a closely related field, with a Master’s qualification (M.Tech or ME) highly preferred to demonstrate advanced technical knowledge and analytical skills.
A strong academic record with a GATE score exceeding 90% reflects the analytical rigor and depth of understanding expected for this position.
Additional certifications or specialized training in NVH, acoustics, vibration analysis, or related automotive engineering disciplines will be advantageous.
Proficiency in English communication, both written and verbal, along with strong presentation capabilities, form an integral part of the qualifications essential for effective stakeholder engagement and team coordination.
This role requires an experienced professional with proven leadership capabilities to manage and direct NVH initiatives for powertrain and driveline components within virtual validation frameworks.
Exceptional communication skills are essential to articulate technical concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams and senior management. Candidates must exhibit strong presentation skills to support decision-making and project reviews.
Leadership qualities including the ability to motivate teams, manage project timelines effectively, and navigate complex technical challenges are vital.
A proactive, solution-oriented approach with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in NVH methodologies is expected, alongside a collaborative mindset to work harmoniously within a dynamic team environment.
