L3 System Specialist

Role Purpose

NCS is looking for a core L3 System Specialist to provide advanced technical ownership across enterprise systems infrastructure. The role will focus on designing, supporting, troubleshooting and improving Windows/Linux server environments, virtualisation platforms, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring and operational resilience.

The engineer will act as the escalation point for complex incidents, guide L1/L2 engineers, and ensure systems are secure, reliable and well-documented.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide Level 3 technical support for enterprise systems, including complex incident resolution, root cause analysis and service restoration.
• Design, deploy, configure and manage enterprise system infrastructure across Windows Server, Linux and virtualised environments.
• Administer and maintain platforms such as Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Nutanix and/or Hyper-V.
• Perform upgrades, hardening and performance tuning.
• Implement and manage backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
• Support common infrastructure services such as Active Directory, DNS, endpoint protection, logging and privileged access tools.
• Monitor system health, capacity, performance and availability using enterprise monitoring/logging platforms.
• Collaborate with Cyber and infrastructure teams to ensure compliance with security standards and operational policies.
• Maintain technical documentation, system configuration records, SOPs and operational runbooks.
• Mentor L1/L2 engineers and provide technical guidance during major incidents or service improvement initiatives.
• Support 24x7 standby or after-hours support when required by project operations.

Required Skills and Experience

• Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong experience in system administration, preferably in an enterprise or managed services environment.
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Windows Server and/or Linux administration
  • VMware, Nutanix, Hyper-V or equivalent virtualization platforms
  • Backup and disaster recovery technologies
  • System monitoring, logging and alerting tools
  • Patch management and system hardening
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing basics and OSI layers.
• Experience with incident, problem and change management processes.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.
• Able to work independently and support critical production systems.
• Experienced L3 System/Windows Consultant with strong expertise in Microsoft Windows Server technologies, Active Directory, Office 365, Azure AD/Entra ID, virtualization, and enterprise infrastructure support.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in technical support and project implementation.
• Proven capability in handling major incidents, service restoration, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting complex system and infrastructure issues.
• Strong hands-on experience supporting Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, Office 365 services, VMware, Nutanix, and enterprise virtualization platforms.
• Experience executing infrastructure projects, upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh initiatives.
• Ability to lead technical troubleshooting efforts and act as an escalation point for critical production incidents.
• Strong understanding of SLA management, service delivery processes, and continuous service improvement practices.
• Experience working with vendors, OEMs, and cross-functional teams to drive issue resolution and operational excellence.
• Excellent stakeholder management, technical documentation, communication, and reporting skills.
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments with a focus on stability, security, availability, and operational resilience.
• Mandatory professional certification in VMware or Nutanix technologies (VCTA/VCP or NCA/NCP).

Preferred Qualifications

• Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, Nutanix or equivalent infrastructure certifications.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with automation or scripting using PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM practices.
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP) preferred.
• Experience with enterprise backup solutions such as Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, or similar platforms.
• Experience leading technical teams or acting as an L3 escalation point for systems infrastructure support.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experienced L3 System/Windows Consultant with expertise in Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, Azure AD/Entra ID, VMware/Nutanix virtualization, backup & DR, and enterprise infrastructure support. Must possess 5+ years of experience in technical support and project implementation, with proven success in major incident management, service restoration, infrastructure troubleshooting, stakeholder engagement, vendor management, SLA governance, and continuous service improvement within large-scale enterprise environments. Mandatory VMware (VCTA/VCP) or Nutanix (NCA/NCP) certification is required.
