We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Application Support Engineer to join our Development & Application Maintenance and Support (AMS) team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the stability, performance, and integrity of our mission-critical mainframe applications. You will handle incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and minor enhancements within a complex environment powered by COBOL, DB2, and CICS.

Key Responsibilities

1. Application Support & Incident Management:

• Provide Level 2/Level 3 support for production mainframe applications.
• Perform rapid troubleshooting and incident resolution for batch failures and online transaction errors.
• Manage "on-call" rotations to ensure 24/7 availability for critical business processes.
• Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring issues to prevent future outages.

2. Maintenance & Minor Enhancements:

• Analyze, design, and implement code changes (bug fixes and small enhancements) in COBOL.
• Modify and optimize DB2 stored procedures, triggers, and complex SQL queries.
• Update and maintain CICS online screens and transaction logic to meet evolving business requirements.
• Perform impact analysis for any code changes to ensure zero disruption to downstream systems.

3. Batch & Online Operations:

• Monitor and manage batch job flows using scheduling tools (e.g., CA7, Control-M, or OPC/TWS).
• Troubleshoot JCL (Job Control Language) errors, including S0C4, S0C7, and B37 abends.
• Manage CICS transaction environments, ensuring online availability and monitoring task performance.

4. Database & Data Integrity:

• Perform DB2 data corrections and data cleansing via SQL or utility programs.
• Monitor DB2 performance, including table space utilization and index efficiency.
• Work closely with Database Administrators (DBAs) to resolve locking or contention issues.

Required Technical Skills

• Programming Languages: Expert-level COBOL (Enterprise COBOL).
• Database: Advanced DB2 (SQL, Bind/Plan, troubleshooting complex joins, and performance tuning).
• Online Environment: Hands-on experience with CICS (Transaction monitoring, Screen handling, and CICS commands).
• JCL & Utilities: Proficiency in JCL and standard IBM utilities (SORT, ICETOOL, IDCAMS, etc.).
• Tools: Experience with Mainframe Debuggers (e.g., IBM Debug Tool, XPEDITER) and File Management tools (e.g., File-AID, File Manager).
• Version Control: Experience with Endevor, Changeman, or similar SCM (Software Configuration Management) tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Years of Experience: 5+ years of experience in Mainframe application support.
• Industry Knowledge: Experience in [Insert Industry, e.g., Banking, Insurance, or Retail] is highly desirable.
• Modernization Interest: Understanding of how Mainframe systems interface with Cloud/Distributed environments (e.g., via MQ Series or APIs) is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, ability to work under pressure during production outages, and excellent communication skills for documenting technical resolutions.

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
